Custom Wheels and Rims – When you compare a newer Mustang Cobra,
which has 18 “wheels on a Mustang GT with 17″ of an older Mustang Classic 14 ” rims, you never think what really makes a difference when it comes to handling. The biggest difference is the custom wheels and rims!
The sporty low-profile is given by a larger wheel with the tire near the same height, but shorter tire sidewall. When you have bigger wheels that allows you to use a shorter tire sidewall and it does the following:
Speedometer readings are accurate so no need to change gears or speedometer recalibrate.
Maintain capacity: The manufacturer has designed and built your car very precise. If you under rate the capabilities of your vehicle, but the use of the vehicle in normal operating conditions, your safety could be at risk. The same is true if you are above the rate of the accounting charge rates; the vehicle will not work as expected.
Wider foot print: A broader, larger tire footprint increases the zone of tire contact with the road and improve safety and performance. Especially if you use your vehicle in the course run by winding roads!
Steering response improved: Increased contact surface of the tire also improves steering response. When you turn the wheel, you are striking the road more and you have increased the sensitivity of direction!
Improved strength in the corners: With the correct tires designed for performance your function in the turns (entry and exit) improves.
A custom sporty look! The look we all love! Custom style wide tires look just outstanding on a vintage Mustang!
This concept is custom to being called Plus 1 and Plus 2 tire sizing. Remember that one of the greatest advantages in moving up a size Plus 1 and Plus 2 tire is the wide variety of locations and performance tires available in sizes.
Plus 1 Rule: increase the width of the section of 10 mm. (Sidewall to sidewall in millimeters) decrease aspect ratio by 10 points (Section height to section width percent) increase rim diameter by 1 inch. (Wheel diameter in inches)
Plus 2 rule of thumb: Increase the width of the section of 20 mm. Reduce aspect ratio by 20 points. Increase rims diameter by 2 inches.
Example: the most common size tire on 1965-1968 Mustangs 195/70/14 is 8 “wide x 24.7″ Tall.
Plus 1 article = 205/60/15 8.4 “wide x 24.8″ Tall. Plus 2 rule = 225/50/16 8.8 “wide x 24.9″ Tall
